Our story
The Acreage started about as my happiness project, to balance corporate life in Wellington. We would escape to our place in the Wairarapa on weekends to balance mind and body. Originally, the plan was just to grow enough beautiful flowers to supply customers in Island Bay where we lived during the week.
Over the years, confidence has grown and the benefits of working with plants has really become so obvious, that I found myself expanding the flower field, adding new beds and a polytunnel to extend the growing season.
We have been very considered in our approach to growing. Our techniques focus primarily on soil health and we try to be as environmentally aware as possible. I intend to tread softly to encourage existing ecosystems. We have lots of bees, beneficial insects, birdlife and the soil is rich with worms.
Second to that, I want to spread a little bit of eco-conscious floral joy.
Our Values
For us, our values focus on both the environment and the legacy we leave for those that come after us.
It’s also about sharing the joy of flowers. I get so much pleasure from having cut flowers in my own home and feel quite strongly that cut flowers should be accessible for anyone to enjoy.
All our flowers and foliage are spray-free. Nothing, not even organic sprays as these can harm the ecosystem too.
You can rest assured you aren’t getting any nasty chemicals when you bury your face into a bouquet of our blooms. Florists and designers working with our flowers aren’t getting dangerous residues during their creative work.
Packaging is single-use plastic free and toxic stuff free. Reusable wherever possible. No extra wrapping, glitter or puffery. Nothing extra for landfill.
